Parents who long suspected their children are addicted to video games have new science on their side.

A new study by researchers at Iowa State University find “pathological patterns” of video game use in their study of young people ages 8 to 18.

The study used a Harris Poll of video game habits among the young people. The survey found that nearly one in 10 players engaged in too much video game play, and that the games were having a harmful effect on their school and home life.

Take it from a former addict: you can become addicted to video games just as easily as you can get addicted to so-called adult vices. That’s whether you use the word addiction or the clinical researcher’s phrase of “pathological use” of a substance, thing or habit.

So parents, feel free to call your child’s obsession with these games an addiction.

I wasn’t addicted to video games, but I was addicted to cigarettes, booze and overeating. And, yes, those addictions caused great harm to my health, relationships and home life.

Sure, video games aren’t as physically dangerous as smoking, alcoholism and the obesity that comes with chronic overeating. But any addiction is dangerous if it causes harm. When it comes to addictions, it’s not just a game.

So ask yourself: Is your kid addicted to these games? Is he or she a junkie? Then ask yourself: What are you going to do about it?

As a parent, you can control the time your child spends playing video games. You can remove video game players from your home. You can monitor your child’s computer use to ensure he or she is not turning on the laptop just to play too many video games.

Retron 3 Video Game System for NES, SNES and Genesis games

Its just like any other imitation system. The wireless controllers SUCK BIG TIME!!!! I HATED THEM!!! I have to aim these pile of trash directly at the system otherwise the system gets no reception–isn’t that stupid? And i mean, THE CONTROLLER MUST, and i do mean, MUST, be at the system’s level. If its on a shelve, you need to stand-up and keep the controller directly at its level, with your wrists bent forward so it aims PERFECTLY at the system’s receiver. No joke, no exaggeration at all!!! Yeah. SO, the way i have my system set up is the system is on a high shelve sort of above my PlayStation, N64, etc. But i can’t use this this way if i want to use wireless controllers. HOWEVER!! This system (Which, what I’m about to mention, does in fact make up for the crappy wireless controllers) has 2 controller input for each other system, 2 each. 2 nes ports, 2 sega, 2 snes. SO, i chose never to use the wireless anyways, just the OEM controllers. You know, for nostalgia, I’d rather use the original anyways. This system isn’t bad, i thought it was the best of all them. (Wireless isn’t a bad ‘convenience’, anyhow, so long as you don’t need to aim it DIRECTLY at the system… I’m babbling) This was why i gave it 5 stars. I didn’t care for the wireless, so i pretended that the wireless controllers weren’t part of it–cuz actually, they aren’t–when I purchased my first nes years ago, there weren’t any wireless… so, naturally, i consider the wireless controllers as the reject of the box and excepted the system as itself alone. Good old classic value, that’s what I’m talking about! Anyways, like i said, its just like any other imitation system–none of different whatsoever. The sound is odd at times, the beeps and boops are sometimes off in scale, but you don’t really notice too much. Its okay. All in all, its not a bad purchase. I felt i got my money’s worth. Actually, it wouldn’t have been bad though if the wireless controllers worked well. I mean, other than their ability to fail on communicating to the system? Yeah, the buttons worked well, when i had it aimed at the system, everything was very good in response. the wireless handled really well as far as the buttons when, and functionality (again, excluding its ability to communicate well with the system) God, i’m bugged about this aren’t I? The five stars i gave for the games it plays–it plays my games really well for an imitation system. The three? I gave the three stars for the systems overall design. the nes and sega are on the side of the system which, since the system is REALLY light weight, it could pull it forward and mess up your configuration if you have any. need space between these areas so the controllers (Sega or nes) can have room to sit in the input. I though the inputs on the side was a but ugly, but i didn’t think it was bad enough to make a fuss over and give it less of a rating. Also, i don’t know this for sure, but i think this system supports Japanese games too, it has a switch on the back… J and a O… i flipped it and had a genesis game inserted. I got a screen that said something about the ‘J’ and it says for the Sega part only anyways “developed for use only with the NTSC genesis systems.” Whatever this means, i don’t know–i just know it says this on a black screen only when i flip that switch off from the O, and over to J, but when its at O the Genesis part works perfectly with all my games. I hope I’m not leaving out any details. Usually, when i browse Amazon or other market place i like detailed reviews so… i hope i covered everything… All in all, this system is okay, not bad for the price.

This is possibly the worst game ever created. Personally after playing this game I have honestly considered quitting playing games, throwing my psp in the trash then burning it and then shoving the family guy video game up the creators A$$. It’s long and boring and honestly the most frustrating game. The annoying cut scenes (at least some of them) cannot be skipped. 2k and Fox have ruined family guy buy creating this abomination. I wish I had the amnesia ray thing from men in black. With Amazons rating system even giving this game 1 star is incredibly over generous.
